sterilising your pump & accessories

Keeping your breast pump clean and sterilised helps protect both you and your baby from bacteria and build up, and keeps your pump performing at its best.

Here’s a quick and simple guide you can follow at home.

Before first use:

Always sterilise all pump parts that come into contact with milk, including flanges, valves, diaphragm, bottles, and parts. Just old school boiling water is perfect for your soft silicone parts. You will replace less if you take care of this step.

Never sterilise the motor or electrical parts. Just wipe those gently with a clean, damp cloth.

After each use:
  1. Rinse all used parts in cool water straight after pumping.
  2. Wash them in warm, soapy water using a soft sponge or brush.
  3. Rinse well and let them air dry on a clean towel or drying rack.
  4. Sterilise once a day (or more often if you prefer).

If you pump multiple times a day, rinse parts after each session and store them in a sealed container in the fridge between uses.

Then do a full wash and sterilise every 24 hours.

Drying and storing:
  • Always air dry parts, don’t use cloths or tea towels.
  • Once dry, store in a clean, covered container or zip lock bag until next use.
  • Avoid sealing damp parts (moisture encourages mould).
Ways to sterilise:

Boiling Method (is the best method)

  • Place clean parts in a pot of boiling water. We are old school.
  • Then remove with clean tongs and let them air-dry.
(Avoid letting parts sit directly on the bottom of the pot.)

Steam Steriliser / Microwave Steam Bags

  • We avoid these are they always reach over 100 degrees unfortunately and we want to make sure we don't warp the silicone.

Cold Water Sterilising

  • Use sterilising tablets or solution made for baby bottles.
  • Soak for the time listed on the packet, then rinse with cooled, boiled water before use if needed.
Ways to sterilise your ULTRA Heated Flange:

HEATED SILICONE FLANGE

CLEANING UPDATE CRITICAL SAFETY: Steam sterilisation permanently damages heating element so we want to make sure we keep the pins dry as this is the most important part of the Ultra.

APPROVED CARE:

• Daily: Warm water and baby soap

• Air dry in shade

• No alcohol/bleach

• Weekly: Boil ONLY, MAX 3 MINUTES

• Keep off pot bottom

• Cool before use

PROHIBITED: Steam sterilisation, Microwave, Dishwasher, Soaking > 3 mins, Direct sunlight. Just old school wiping down and boiling for under 3 minutes.

WARNING: Non-compliance causes silicone damage, reduced suction, permanent heating failure and safety hazards.

When to replace parts:

Check silicone pieces regularly, if they’re soft, cloudy, stretched or torn, it’s time to replace them.

Keeping your parts in good shape helps maintain suction and comfort.
